As a finnish middle schooler, I wish this is how it was. Yes, school lunch is free, but that isn't always a good thing. We get a borderline unedible meal, and for that reason almost no one goes to the cafeteria. People just go to the nearby store to buy something actually healthy and edible and take the 2 hour detention.

In India, private school lunches are usually homemade ones. The most common lunches are Paratha, poori, sometimes potato stuffed grilled sandwiches if you're mum is feeling fancy. We also took Maggi noodles when we were in primary classes.
For government school, meal is sanctioned by mid-day meal programme. It's a gov launched lunch programme which gives rice, lentil soup and some kind of vegetable dish.

I go to a school in ireland. Most kids go home for lunch and have things like pasta. I live too far so I stay in for lunch. I bring a packed lunch on Monday Tuesday and thursday. I usually bring a sandwich an Apple a yoghurt and some crackers. On Wednesday we have a half day so I say lunch at home. I usually have a grilled roll or toasted sandwich. On Fridays my mum gives me money for a shop so I buy wedges a pack or crisps and a chocolate bar.
